Painted from a morning I almost didn’t see. I had been watching the sun rise ahead of me, its first light striking the land — warm, fierce, expectant. But something made me turn, and behind me the sky had opened: a towering display of colour and cloud that carried the sunrise in its own way.
This painting holds that moment — the realisation that what is most powerful is not always in front of us, but waiting behind. Because sometimes we don’t know what we’re holding until we turn to face it.
