Where the Sky Breaks explores the tension between storm and light — a painting about energy, stillness, and quiet resilience.

Where the Sky Breaks captures the restless movement of weather over a quiet, grounded landscape. Heavy skies sweep down in broad, gestural marks, while a seam of pale light on the horizon holds the promise of calm beyond the storm.

Inspired by the changing atmospheres of the Cornish coastline, this piece explores the interplay of turbulence and stillness — how moments of clarity often emerge from dramatic shifts.

Created in mixed media on plywood, the raw surface becomes an active part of the composition, allowing layered textures and directional marks to speak with immediacy. This material choice echoes the physicality of the land, giving the work an organic strength and depth.
